Dear Colleagues,

ImageAs many of you know sailing is one of my passions and I'm now about to achieve a lifetime ambition of sailing the Atlantic from west to east. Departing Antigua 6th May-- a total journey of approx 3365 nautical miles --via the Azores--to Portsmouth UK.
It will take around 15 days for the first leg to Horta (2100nm) then a further 9 days for the second leg (1200nm) to Portsmouth UK with a 1 week stopover in the Azores.
We will do this in 4 matched Farr 65 Ocean Racing Yachts as part of a "friendly" race --each boat having around 15 crew.

To follow the race there will be a blog site at www.ondeck.co.uk. Right now I don’t know the name of the boat I will let you know at the start.

I would like to use this event as an opportunity to gain sponsorship from you for a rare disease --none of the money will come to me personally- it’s called Incontinentia Pigmenti.

This organisation was formed in 2001 and is leading the way in support of families affected by this disease and in providing information to the medical community. Its mission includes support to research and medical investigation.
The genetic cause of which was only identified in 2000. The monies raised will be used in support of the families and also to fund something as modest as a PhD research project over 3 years to find out more about the disease process and the gene mutations.
It’s an X-linked dominant disease which damages neurological, ophthalmological and dental capabilities.
Jacques Monnet is currently President of the French organisation, sponsored by Mme Simone Veil, former Ministry of Health and President of the European Assembly, and presently member of “Académie Française”.

So if you could see your way to supporting this charity financially and also following my voyage across the seas that would be great--I will keep you updated in the blog.

I would like to thank Sanofi Pasteur management for allowing this charity appeal.
For donations please see the details below :
You can either download the donation form from the IP charity website and mail it, or proceed to a donation on line.
For French citizens, a tax credit receipt will be mailed after payment is received.

Regards and many thanks in anticipation of your kind support,

David Watson
