Rostropovich, a prestigious Honorary Member has left us...
Mistislav Rostropovitch, a world- reknown Russian cellist and conductor, was born at Bakou in 1927. Not only is Mistislav Rostropovitch a brilliant musician, he is a man of heart and a great humanist as well. Mistislav Rostropovitch, who is a personal friend of Guy Leclerc, IPF’s honorary Vice-president, supports our association and has accepted to be its sponsor , friend and spokesman. This is how the story between Mistislav and Guy started, as told by Guy: « In 1974 Mistislav Rostropovitch bought a Stradivarius which had belonged to one of my ancestors, the cellist and composer Jean Louis Duport. The instrument sparkled our friendship. Some time ago I had asked Slava if he would consent to sponsor our association. He didn’t answer immediately that’s why I decided to ask him again after receiving from him a very hearty letter thanking me for my own poem “Rostropovitch, my friend, a free cello”. This time I received a quick answer. He first expressed his gratitude for my poem and soon after accepted to be our sponsor.» This is what Mistislav Rostropovitch says about our fight in his letter to Guy Leclerc:
« I received your letter asking me to be your sponsor on June 15th . I feel your fight to help research on Incontinentia Pigmenti to be a major one and I would be quite happy if my name could contribute to the success of the association and I readily accept to stand in your Sponsoring Committee.» This reknowned sponsoring gives IPF a new scope and is an encouragement for all of us to keep acting in favour of IP- affected people and their families and further scientific research. |
